Hi Turtles. Well it is that time of year again when we are planning our program for this summer. We now have an online registration form that can be completed and will automatically email to us.

Swimming pools are one of the safest environments during COVID.

For all my swimming friends - Factual information is important. Engaged by Swimming Victoria, I was asked to fast-track a literature review on the relationship between Swimming Pools and COVID 19.

With the ever-changing COVID-19 environment, I believe it is the first of it’s kind in Australia.

Unfortunately, Swimming Pools and their operations are often a misunderstood environment. Through lack of knowledge and incorrect assumptions, decisions are being made that negatively impact a highly regulated industry.

But more than anything, the review provided fascinating information. Things I am sure the industry has known all along. As international scientific evidence has acknowledged, pools are one of the safe environments. To read the full review, go to: https://bit.ly/32IUicb

Yesterday afternoon, the kids were so very thrilled to have their first swimming lesson during this year's “Swim Stars program” 🏊‍♂️🏊‍♂️🏊‍♂️ Normally, every year the kids swimming program starts in April and ends in late August or early September. This year, because of Covid -19, the program had been postponed until now.

This year’s “Swim Stars Program” is being funded through a grant from AVI and Water Skills For Life. We are so thankful of their support and that of all the parties who have contributed funding so that our kids can enjoy this great opportunity to be in water on a weekly basis, from now until the end of September 🤗💕

We are always personally grateful of the ongoing support from Ms Tanya Camont, who has helped us with this project during the last few years. Swim lessons for the kids with disabilities is very important to their physical health and well-being 💕💕💕

We would also like to send our sincere thanks to all the teachers provided by Swim Vietnam and all the Expat volunteers who came along to help out with the swimming lessons this afternoon. The kids had a great afternoon as you can see with the smiles on their faces in the photos 💕😍😘

Swim and Survive's Tuesday Teaching Tip

Kicking is a vital for progression of skills and water safety. An effective kick should begin at the hip and move down the leg with a slight flex through the knee. Relaxed ankles end with feet performing a relaxed point to extend the leg.

GIVING BACK TO VIETNAM THROUGH WATER SAFETY FOR CHILDREN

Australian volunteer David Hurt will be giving back to Swim Vietnam – a charity drowning prevention mission in Quang Nam province - as one of the winners of the Australian Volunteers Program Go BackGive Back competition.

He’ll be supporting the team with water safety education, learn to swim programs, and helping develop a national water safety plan for Vietnam – training and skills that could one day save a life. Typically, David would return to Vietnam to support with the delivery of the project. However, due to COVID19, David will support Swim Vietnam online.

David supported Swim Vietnam in 2014 through the Australian Volunteers Program as a Business Development Officer. Go BackGive Back provides past Australian volunteers and their partner organisations a $6,000 grant to fund a project of their choice.

Thật tuyệt vời vì tình nguyện viên Australia David Hurt sẽ lại có thể tiếp tục đóng góp cho Swim Việt Nam – tổ chức từ thiện hỗ trợ phòng chống đuối nước ở tỉnh Quảng Nam. Anh là một trong những tình nguyện viên nhận được giải thưởng từ cuộc thi Trở lại Đóng góp, một sáng kiến của Chương trình tình nguyện viên Australia.

Anh sẽ hỗ trợ Swim Việt Nam trong các hoạt động giáo dục phòng chống đuối nước, chương trình dạy bơi và hỗ trợ xây dựng kế hoạch quốc gia về phòng chống đuối nước cho Việt Nam – các kỹ năng này có thể vào một ngày nào đó sẽ cứu sống mạng người. Theo thể lệ của cuộc thi thì David sẽ sang Việt Nam để hỗ trợ việc thực hiện dự án. Tuy nhiên, do dịch bệnh COVID-19, anh sẽ hỗ trợ Swim Việt Nam qua hình thức trực tuyến.

Năm 2014, David tình nguyện làm việc cho Swim Việt Nam với vai trò là Cán bộ Phát triển Chương trình phòng chống đuối nước thông qua Chương trình tình nguyện viên Australia. Giải thưởng từ cuộc thi “Trở lại Đóng góp" trị giá AUD $6.000 sẽ giúp các cựu tình nguyện viên và tổ chức tiếp nhận triển khai dự án do họ cùng thiết kế và thực hiện.
