LEARNING SAFE ENTRY TO THE POOL

Did you know that Dee Why, in Sydney's Northern Beaches, has one of the largest Tibetan Communities in Australia? They are just one group from a CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) community who participate in our Community Swim Program.

Many Tibetan's new to our area are unfamiliar with our beaches and waterways, and have no 'water awareness'.

Water Skills for Life are committed to educating this and other CALD communities, who may be at risk on our beaches without proper education and training. We are working closely with the Tibetan Community of Australia and Community Northern Beaches to provide programs that will develop water awareness, swimming and water safety skills.

Our first swimming program for the Tibetan community commenced in July 2012 at the Warringah Aquatic Centre and was a huge success.

As an organisation Water Skills for Life is also providing an opportunity for interested people from CALD backgrounds to become swim teachers and volunteer with us. This will enable them to work closely with their own community to build confidence and knowledge around the aquatic environment. With such communities - and a skill shortage in swim teachers versed in both cultural and language skills this project has the potential to build a knowledge and a skill base.

To book into the Swim Program please fill in the online Swim Program Booking form. We will then send you an email confirming your request to book in together with payment details. Upon payment being received, you will then secure you place in the program.
